Layer-Thickness

And now about the dark sides of the Replicator 2 or very likely any 3d printer:

At this time I can not print at a layer thickness of 0,1 mm. I can print very uncertain time the printer will not extrude any more PLA. At a middle quality setting (for instance 0.27mm it is quite easy to print without a problem but at 0.1mm it is much harder to even start the print.

What this is all about? It is about the precission of the adjustment. That includes the leveling of the built plate, the extruder, the speed to print with and the temperature.

A ticking-noice will tell you that there is no more PLA brought to the includer. This can be the case because the temperature is too high and the melted PLA begins to burn instead of only melting which will result in a blockade of the extruder or it can be about the precision with which the transport engine is working  which can be set with a small screw or some other factors...

This means: Trying, trying, trying....

Makerware is making it a little bit easier to cope with this, because you just do not have that many settings to play with and it calculates more by itself (in comparission with ReplicatorG).

I am currently doing small steps towards a higher resolution. Currntly I am printing something at 0,22mm thick layers and it seems to work for now...
