First impressions with the Makerbot Replicator 2
The Makerbot Replicator 2 after startup.
A working screw with nut.
My first experiences with the Makerbot Replicator 2 are mixed. I have produced some nice objects like a screw and a nut (comes with the Replicator 2) and a Plomper) and I can say it is really fun but it can be quite hard to get the plastics of the build-plate.
That is my current problem too: I have some plastic leftovers on my plate from canceled prints and I do not know yet how to get them off. The good thing: The support people at Makerbot are really very responsive and fast.
I just recently wrote a support question and my first answer from Makerbot has been given in about 2 hours. That is fast! The suggested to use a spatula or alcohol based tissues.
Laster this day I will have a look at the local stores if I can get a alcohol based cleaner to get the stuck plastic off the plate. My first tries with cleaning tissues for glasses were not successful (make sure you use alcohol based once if you want to try it) but that may be because the portion of alcohol in there is really small... I hope this will work out, because it would be an easy enough and good solution.
Lets see if I can work that out. All in all I can say it is really fun if you are not allergic against figuring stuff out a little and you are not afraid of using a side cutter, a gripper or a spatula.
PLA leftovers on the build platform. (these are not scratches)
If not you can get your hands on one of the 3d-printers if not, you should not try it out. Just to make this clear here: I am not close as good with tolls as some others are, although I am not totally useless with a hammer and a nail ;)...
